This unfortunate little snake is notorious for swallowing its prey whole, but its luck appears to have changed.
In November 2016, photographer Julie-Anne O'Neill claimed credit for the image in a Google+ post.
This image of an Australian green tree frog eating a brown snake was taken at night with a Canon EOS 550D, according to the caption.
However, because the image was already available online prior to her post, her claim cannot be verified. O'Neill adds:
"Prior to the capture, I was under the impression that they only ate insects. The Australian Brown Snake possesses a potent venom. The frog survived despite being bitten by the snake, as can be seen if you enlarge the photo. However, it was not a happy ending for the snake..."
In fact, the expression on the snake's face is comparable to that of the fish photographed inside a jellyfish, for whom the outcome was likely similarly unfortunate.
